Dog Island Summer

Dog Island Summer, located in Rafferty Triangle, was designed and fabricated by LeMonde Studio. The installation featured various interactive items including a large fire hydrant, a dog biscuit- shaped park bench, a large collar featuring popular local dog names, and two music boxes which are covered in original designs by local artists Ashley Betito and Kerri Boccard. The music boxes played original songs from Queens musicians including the Broadway Junior team from Queens Community School 111 by students from Pre-K to the 8th grade and Argentinian jazz musician, Yanko Valdes. The dog theme was selected in celebration of LIC's large dog population, and the proliferation of dog-related businesses. LICP worked with NYC Parks for the siting of the project.
The installation ran from June 1 – November 1, 2023.
