This spring, Vital Art Studios Gallery presents Visual Fantasy – Deconstruction of Sculpture, a solo exhibition by Jim Schutte, curated by Raluca Anchidin. Featuring works such as Binary Stars, Blue Giant, Neutron Capture, and Habital Planet, the show reimagines the relationship between materiality and image-making, dissolving the boundaries between sculpture and painting.
Schutte’s work defies the weight and solidity traditionally associated with sculpture. In his compositions, color floats, form bends effortlessly, and structure exists in a state of flux. With references that evoke cosmic landscapes, organic movement, and dreamlike abstraction, his visual language creates a space where physicality is no longer fixed, but instead vibrates with a sense of expansion and transformation.
From the celestial swirls of Cygnus Loop to the rhythmic curves of Moby Dick, Schutte’s pieces invite the viewer into a realm where pure physical gesture becomes form, and mass gives way to motion. This exhibition offers an immersive encounter with a body of work that exists between dimensions—weightless yet present, structured yet fluid.
Visual Fantasy – Deconstruction of Sculpture will be on view from February 22 to May 18, 2025, with an Opening reception on Saturday, February 22, from 12 to 3pm. Step into a world where physicality is reimagined, and sculptural elements dissolve into visual fantasy.
