About the works:
Kelley Donovan & Dancers
Transfigured Ground, explores the transformation experienced when life shifts in unexpected ways, making us vulnerable to sudden loss or illness, creating monumental shifts that alter our paths forever, forcing us to adapt.
Through voice-overs, gestures, projection of energy, breath and muscular effort, the work provides a gateway to observe the body in transformation, exploring the relationship between our bodies and our emotional, physical and spiritual lives, encouraging viewers to reflect on their physicality with body and mind in alignment as a process of healing from recent events during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dancers will source movement from their personal experiences, exploring how the body can feel when dealing with trauma, creating sharp angles and slicing limbs that segue into liquid curves with startlingly ephemeral shifts of weight with unison movement that provides collective power amidst individual phrases to convey unity.
Susie McHugh + Dancers
Susie McHugh's "Below the Bottom" portrays the multifaceted journey of healing. The macabre visual imagery and vulnerability the dancers bring to the piece invites the audience into the complicated mind of someone with a mental health condition. Inspired by her own mental health journey, Susie's "Below the Bottom" illustrates the non-linear recovery process and explores both the beauty and nightmares that occur when we are alone with ourselves.
