LIC Springs!

Is LIC Partnership Event

Thousands of local community members recently attended the Long Island City Partnership’s third annual LIC Springs! community block festival on Vernon Boulevard, between 50th Avenue and 46th Avenue. Attendees took part in day of free, fun-for-all activities and outdoor dining hosted by local LIC restaurants, shops, cultural institutions, artists and community organizations. “The LIC Springs! block party is a great occasion to bring our community together for a day of family-friendly fun that showcases everything LIC has to offer,” said Elizabeth Lusskin, President of the LIC Partnership. “The event featured a mix of restaurants, cultural institutions, community groups and artists that reflected the diverse talent and offerings of LIC. I thank our block ambassadors, NYC DOT and New York City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer for underwriting the event, New York State Senator Michael Gianaris for joining us, all of our local elected officials and all of our participants and attendees for contributing to yet another fantastic festival.” Highlights from the day’s activities included: the creation of a web made from recycled materials with Materials for the Arts, spaghetti and gelato eating contests courtesy of Manducatis Rustica, interactive rowing experiences with Row New York, photo opportunities with Mr. Met, obstacle courses by LIC Kids Gymnastics and the painting of a mural with 7Train Murals. Live musical and dance performances at the event showcased talent from LIC and Queens-based artists and cultural institutions, including: Joffrey Queens, Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens, Variations Theater Group, Jessica Lang Dance, Tiger J Taekwondo, Thalia Spanish Theatre, New York Stage of Mind, Martinez Dance Studios, and Queensboro Dance Festival.
