Museum of the Moving Image will present a dynamic new exhibition that explores skateboarding and its capture on video as twin forms of artistic expression. Recording the Ride will feature videos and objects related to skate culture’s formative years in the late 1980s and 1990s, with a focus on those that laid the foundation for the structure and style of the analog DIY skate video genre, including releases by H-Street, Plan B, World Industries, Girl, Zoo York, and more. Highlights include period televisions playing full-length classic skate videos; historic decks from ’90s teams; Sony VX1000 video camera and other iconic gear; and a wide array of original VHS tapes that document the key titles of the era. Exhibition Sponsor: New Balance. Exhibit info
On Saturday, Sep. 7, the Museum will present an opening program, Skate Video Essentials: The Legacy of Mike Ternasky, followed by a reception.

The exhibition opens September 7 and will be on view through January 25, 2025 with a slate of regulary programs.
