Retrospective Gallery Show for JK Sunquist, LIC’s Most Renowned Living Artist, Debuts This Month Show at Matted LIC Includes Works Never Before Seen or Unexhibited Since the 1980’s; Scheduled for November 30 Long Island City, November 30 – A comprehensive retrospective show of the works of Long Island City-based artist JK (Jack) Sundquist will debut November 30 at Matted LIC Gallery, according to gallery owner Donna Drimer. Sundquist is an internationally renowned artist whose works across a variety of media are included in some of the world's most prestigious galleries and museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian, the White House, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Sundquist's most recent work has focused on hand-rendered, detailed architectural drawings, most notably of the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, as well as local views of the NYC skyline and the LIC waterfront. Earlier in his career, especially during the 1980s when he was a featured artist at the Field Gallery in NYC's East Village, he was a leading painter and collagist during the heyday of that arts community’s unprecedented international, cultural influence. Less well-known are his images of the Washington, DC area, which will be shown here in New York City for the first time in this exhibition. Jack Sunquist will be in attendance for the opening on November 30 at 6 PM. “Jack’s work over the course of many years displays an outstanding depth of creativity across various media, from original painting and drawings to collages and prints. His newer urban-themed work is immensely engaging, and his earlier work remains an important representation of the cultural zeitgeist of New York during a period of immense impact on world art and culture,” Drimer said. “From the perspective of tracking the roots of Long Island City as a now world-recognized vibrant art community, the Sunquist Retrospective is a ‘must see’ addition to the historic canon,” she added.
